Dr. Rae went through her own adoption journey, during which she discovered a dire need for adoption resources. There were no clear guidelines in place and the exclusivity of adoption agencies made it hard to understand what they were looking for and next steps. Especially when it comes to books about babies, I like to do some research to determine what kind of design isn't being done. Dr. Rae's goal for this cover was to be as inclusive as possible, showing that families come in all colors, shapes, and sizes. I was reminded of the wall in my own doctor's office where pictures of all of the babies that they delivered are proudly on display; those two ideas became the inspiration behind this design.

When it came to the interior, Dr. Rae wanted this to have a workbook feel so readers could take notes and refer back to this book again and again throughout their adoption process. To solve this, we included large breaks between paragraphs and added pages to take notes at the end of each chapter.
